When our Kids4Kids (K4K) Committee hit the courts at Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, NJ on May 31, 2025, they brought more than just their tennis rackets – they brought hope. This event united tennis enthusiasts and community supporters for an afternoon of fun and games that had an equally profound impact on children’s education in India.

Through friendly competition and generous hearts, the tournament raised $2,000 for our Educate 2 Success (E2S) initiative, funds that will directly support educational resources for children in underprivileged communities.

Excellence On and Off the Court

The tournament showcased amazing talent, with K4K leaders Saisha Varaiya and Khrish Shah advancing to the final round. Share & Care President Saumil Parikh and partner Ravi Munver ultimately claimed the championship title. But excellence went far beyond the tennis matches themselves. Beyond this friendly competition, the event fostered meaningful connections as participants and spectators alike gathered between matches, creating an atmosphere of community and shared purpose.

At Share & Care, we truly care about creating a fairer world, and our Women Empowerment initiative is at the heart of that mission. Recently, we had the chance to visit the villages of Palanpur and Chadotar, and what we witnessed truly brought our mission to life. We want to share the inspiring story of 13-year-old Zalak, who shows us what resilience and hope really mean.

Discovering Strength in Chadotar

During our visit to Palanpur and Chadotar, Dr. Ketki Shah, our Women Empowerment Chair, and Sharad Shah, one of our dedicated Board of Trustees members, met an incredible young girl named Zalak and her family. Zalak, along with her three younger sisters and their father, who works hard as an auto driver, have faced unimaginable hardship after losing their mother to cancer. Despite the sadness in her eyes, Zalak greeted us with a warm smile and a spirit that just wouldn’t quit. It was genuinely moving.

Recognizing Zalak’s potential and the challenges her family faced, Share & Care stepped in to help her attend Parikshitlal Ashramshala. Since starting mid-term, she’s settled in and thriving, both in her studies and as a person.

It’s amazing to see what a nurturing environment can do.

Zalak’s Journey: A Beacon of Hope

Zalak’s story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when you combine resilience with the right support. Thanks to Share & Care’s help, she’s found a place to focus on her education and grow as an individual. Her journey is a testament to the incredible things that can happen when we empower young women with love, care, and education.

A Deeply Moving Visit

The trip continued with a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram, a project supported by the Share & Care Women Empowerment Signature Program. “As we stepped into the campus, we were struck by the simplicity of the surroundings and an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, smiles, and determination,” Dr. Ketki Shah shared. “The students greeted us with bright smiles and songs of friendship and devotion.”

“Visiting Sabarmati students was a deeply moving and humbling experience.”

Supporting Sustainable Change in Women’s Empowerment

Zalak’s story, along with all the young women supported at Sabarmati, perfectly illustrates how Share & Care is making a real difference in the lives of women and girls through education and comprehensive support. Learn more about our Women Empowerment program and consider donating today to help us continue making a profound difference in the lives of those who need it most.

The planning for our exciting Kids4Kids’ Pickleball Event kicked off in August 2024, and it’s been an incredible journey ever since. A dedicated team of nine volunteers from the Kids4Kids Committee went above and beyond to ensure this fundraiser would be a remarkable success.

Taking place in November 2024 and fueled by the rising popularity of pickleball, the volunteers crafted an engaging tournament experience that included an auction featuring local brands from Englewood, trophies, sponsored prize money, exciting games like word searches and bingo, and delicious food offerings such as falafels and pizza, not to mention a variety of refreshing beverages.

Their hard work and commitment truly paid off when the final numbers were tallied. They doubled their initial fundraising goal, marking a record achievement for the student-run organization. By November, the committee had successfully raised over $20,000 in donations and sponsorships, showcasing the incredible support from the community. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all our sponsors and donors for your generous contributions!

K4K is Breaking Records and Making History

The 2024 Pickleball Event has set a new benchmark for the Kids4Kids initiative. Every form of ticket sold out, filling the venue to maximum capacity and underscoring the enthusiasm that this fundraiser generated. Participants reveled in the thrill of the tournament, enjoyed open play rounds, received coaching, and participated in fun activities, including a lively photo booth. The supportive atmosphere fostered by both volunteers and participants reinforced the committee’s belief in the positive impact they are making through community service.

By the event’s conclusion, Kids4Kids had raised an impressive $30,000 to help educate under-resourced children in rural areas of India. This achievement reflects the committee’s dedication and underscores the strong support from our local community that is willing to contribute to this vital cause.

Join Us in Making a Difference

In the heart of Mumbai, a group of dedicated young volunteers from the Kids4Kids (K4K) program embarked on a transformative journey this summer. Their mission? To bridge the digital divide and empower underprivileged students with vital computer skills at the Light of Life Trust (LOLT).

The K4K interns, traveling at their own expense, brought knowledge of essential applications like Google Suite and Canva and also a passion for creating lasting impact.

This initiative, part of our Educate 2 Success (E2S) program, is more than just a teaching experience – it’s a testament to the power of youth-led change and the impact of digital literacy in today’s world. What makes this program truly special is its continuity and growth. In fact, some students who participated in previous years have gone on to college, actively using the skills they learned through K4K. And our interns this year hope to continue inspiring that momentum.

Voices of Impact: Testimonials from K4K Interns and LOLT Students

The experiences shared by both the K4K interns and LOLT students paint an exciting and hopeful picture of mutual growth, learning, and inspiration. You can learn more from these participants with the testimonials below.

“Prior to the pandemic, students from a previous committee planned and took a trip to Light of Life Trust in India to teach students there firsthand and see the impact of their fundraising. Until last summer, the pandemic stopped the committee from revisiting. However, I restarted the program last year with a group of 8 volunteers educating 40 students on how to use computers and teaching them different forms of art. This summer, two separate groups participated in the program, educating around 50 students at LOLT, or Light of Life Trust in Worli, India. K4K’s fundraising efforts are allocated towards educating the underprivileged children of India, including the students at Light of Life Trust.

This summer, Anya and I volunteered at LOLT for the first week of the program. We taught the students how to use different computer applications. In addition, we quizzed them every day on what they learned (the students’ favorite part) and played fun games throughout the week. The experience was unforgettable and seeing the students so excited to learn new lessons every day was heartwarming. I met some returning students from last year’s program, and was excited to hear that some students had gone to college and were using the applications we showed them last year at their colleges. Teaching and talking to the students gave me incredible insight into their lives. It really showed me the need for proper technological education in India, especially as we enter a technological age.” – Rhea Shah, K4K President

“I went to LOLT for the first time to teach the kids this summer and showing them how to use the computer applications and activities was a special experience and truly humbling. All the kids were fun to work with, and I was able to see another side of the world which I don’t get to see in my day to day life. I’m so happy I decided to volunteer for the week and get a chance to build connections with all the kids. I am looking forward to going again and having other opportunities like this through SCF.” – Anya Shah, Project Fundraising Coordinator

“Teaching the students at the Lite of Light in India was such an enriching experience. Watching each of them learn new skills, like creating their own resumes and navigating apps like Canva, was truly inspiring. Their improvement in reading skills was particularly impressive. Seeing the curiosity and excitement in their eyes made it even more special as they engaged with what we were teaching. Some students were especially intrigued with learning AI on various apps like Canva and PowerPoint. The collaborative spirit among them was heartwarming as they supported each other along the way. It was a joy to witness such passion for learning and growth.” – Shanaya Parikh, Secretary of SCFK4K

The impact wasn’t lost on the LOLT students either.

“I enjoyed learning all of the applications such as Google Sheets and Google Documents. I learned two new games as well – hangman and making origami fortune tellers.” – Vikrant, an LOLT student

“I found it nice when you came. I enjoyed learning new things. I enjoyed the games.” – Sanjana, an LOLT student

Continuing the Journey of Empowerment

The success of this summer’s K4K internship program at LOLT is just the beginning. With 5,000 already raised towards a goal of 20,000 this year, Share & Care Foundation is poised to expand its impact. But we need your help to reach our target and continue providing underprivileged children in India with the tools and opportunities they need for a brighter future.

By becoming a K4K member or donating to the cause, you’re not just supporting a program – you’re investing in the dreams and potential of countless young minds. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to bridging the digital divide and creating a more equitable world.

Join us in this transformative journey. Together, we can empower the next generation with the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world. Your support today can change a life forever.

Featuring a rousing musical performance by Samir & Dipalee, India’s favorite singing couple, and speeches from all generations of Share & Care members, the evening felt more like a reunion of friends and family than a charity gala. From the Waghjipura Village

Translated Transcript:

  • Hello, my name is Anil, and I work as a Lokmitra in the village of Waghjipur, located in the Kapdwanj district. I would like to discuss how to store rainwater into the ground to increase the water level. I have a farmer friend named Pravinsingh Bhalu Singh, who has conducted experiments at his house. I would like to know his response:
  • Hello, Anilbhai, our village friend. He approached me and mentioned that Pravinbhai has a water store project. I asked him what the benefits would be. He explained that we should collect and utilize the rainwater that falls by storing it in the ground. He suggested digging or boring a hole for this purpose. I inquired if we could use the existing borehole. He said yes we can, but he informed me that the costs of using pipes and other materials have increased. I replied saying that it’s not a problem, and if it’s beneficial, we should proceed. We took some measurements, and since my house is closer, we decided to use four to five pipes. We connected them to use the existing borehole, which was already dug up to a certain depth. Anilbhai accompanied me, and said “I will assist you in the process.” We dug a trench and laid the pipes, ensuring that the roof water flows directly into the borehole. Additionally, I installed a water tank on the roof. If the water level becomes too high, it will now flow directly into the drain. Initially, I had stopped using this borehole, but now I have started using it again, and the water supply is much higher than that of the previous borehole. After about 15 minutes, the water flow decreases briefly but then starts again. The previous borehole used to provide less water, but this new one delivers a sufficient amount in approximately 10 to 11 minutes. After it reaches full capacity, I turn it off, and if I need water again, I can simply restart it. Therefore, I have benefited from this improvement. If you share this with others, please let them know about the advantages. Within 10 to 15 minutes, I have access to an abundant water supply. If all the villagers follow the same approach, everyone will benefit.

Finally, enjoy a collection of photos from the trip and program tour!

On this trip, the group toured a women-led dairy production.

As a result of the local school being built, the girls’ drop-out ratio has decreased in the village.

The group toured an organic farm that the Lokmitras run.

SCF members observed a school lesson at a Lokmitra-supported school

Village children visit Lokmitras and are able to enjoy a meal with them.

The group visited an organic farm maintained by the Lokmitra.

The group toured a milk production line.

With the work of Lokmitras, kids have begun taking more of an interest in studying.

Talented artist and Kids4Kids committee member Aarav Gandhi has created an award-winning piece that serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy, generosity, and addressing the needs of others. In this spirit of the artwork, Aarav generously donated the piece to Share & Care for a donation campaign.

“Money Hungry” by Aarav Gandhi

Medium: Mixed media printed on paper
Size: 22” x 27”

“Money Hungry” is a captivating painting that juxtaposes the concepts of life and death, symbolized by hands, with the allure and influence of money. The painting raises important questions about the impact of materialism and the pursuit of wealth on our society, highlighting the potential consequences of prioritizing monetary gain over compassionate care.

In the context of the Share and Care Foundation, the artwork serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy, generosity, and addressing the needs of others. It prompts us to reflect on the values that underpin our actions and encourages us to consider how we can use our resources — including financial means — to make a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

— Aarav Gandhi

In addition to “Money Hungry”, Aarav’s other artwork also provides an insightful look into the human experience.

“Alter Ego”

This piece is called “Alter Ego.” It symbolizes the fractured state of the human conscience. The human is always at war within itself, conflicting the expectations of the mind versus that of the heart. The elephants falling depict the initial state of our consciousness, where we are falling as well. Furthermore, the elephant is made out of wood to illustrate our core nature at heart to be organic instead of mechanical. This piece was made using a variety of media: traditional as well as digital. The traditional aspect included myself drawing specific aspects of the elephant, while the digital aspects included the merging of the elephants and the ripple effect added to the background.

“Chained Hearts”

This piece is named “Chained Hearts” because it depicts two hearts linked together, but in a more figurative sense, it illustrates the imbalance between the two hearts. Although both of the hearts are perfectly symmetrical, the fact that one of them is filled with hue, emphasizes the state of disequilibrium. This inequality in the hearts can be representative of changes in nature as well as the difference between organic and mechanical mechanisms. Overall, the change in the color of the hearts is really just dependent on the viewer’s perspective. This piece was made using more traditional mediums: where the hearts were drawn with paint and pen, the background was made with paint, and the actual base of the painting was cardboard. This piece, however, does utilize digital techniques of Photoshop and slight editing of the lighting.

We are ensuring that every dollar we distribute in 2022 reaches one more family. As Covid relief has given way to a renewed focus on our core projects, our work is more urgently needed than ever. The cost of living has dramatically increased, driving more families below the poverty line. Since the pandemic, our impact has been felt across 15 states of India, and with your support, we can continue to penetrate India’s most rural areas. This year, your Foundation has been hard at work addressing this fast-changing environment through our core pillars of support: Women Empowerment, Healthcare to Unreached, Educate to Success, Educate to Graduate, and Village Upliftment.

With all of these accomplishments, one might assume that our combined journey of sharing and caring has reached its pinnacle. However, with the waves of calls for action still knocking at our door, we must endeavor together with compassion. YOUR hand and heart are crucial for us to fulfill this aim.

Our target is to impact 150,000 lives in 2022. Please give generously so together we can reach our goal. As we approach this season of thanks, we are grateful for the Caring community that we Share — an ever-growing network of more than 12,000 donors and volunteers across generations — that is mindful of others.

Help us reach our goal of empowering the lives of 150,000 beneficiaries in need!

With the pandemic challenges nearly behind us, 2022 is shaping up to be a year of significant milestones for Share & Care’s Healthcare 2 Unreached Signature Program (H2U). Never before has H2U been able to partner with so many enthusiast NGOs, working together to deliver amazing results, provide extremely effective uses of donations, and serve so many grateful beneficiaries. In 2021, H2U engaged in more projects than ever, and even more are in the pipeline for 2022. Read on to learn more about all of the excellent work being done to improve healthcare quality and access in India.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention in Gujarat

Partnering with Rajkot Cancer Society in Gujarat, H2U has embarked upon a three-year project to provide early breast and cervical cancer diagnoses, provide HPV vaccinations, and offer educational resources for women about their health. HPV vaccinations have been shown to protect against HPV-associated diseases, including some cervical cancers.

In 2021, the project was responsible for:

  • Providing 1,400 mammograms,
  • Performing 1,200 PAP screenings,
  • Administering 1,000 HPV vaccines, and
  • Hosting online education sessions for 120,000 young women.

In the first three months of 2022, the project has already:

  • Provide more than 100 mammograms,
  • Performed 100 PAP screenings,
  • Administered 290 HPV vaccines, and
  • Hosted 22 online education sessions.

Additionally, in 2021, H2U worked with KCPF to provide 1,462 young women with HPV vaccinations through their schools, as well as provide funding for women to receive mammograms and PAP screenings to detect and provide intervention for breast and cervical cancer.

Improving Health and Welfare in the Desert of Rajasthan

H2U has engaged in a project that has improved maternal and neonatal outcomes for 600 women through prenatal care camps, training for village health workers, and educating women on health, nutrition, and mental health issues. The project has also created better links to government health services for these villages. Additionally, camps were hosted for adolescents to address health, hygiene, and physical changes.

To improve the nutritional health of these villages, the project installed more than 50 arid horticultural units to grow fruits and vegetables. Funds were also provided through Covid disaster relief to supply masks, hygiene kits, meal kits, and other necessary items.

Anemia Screening, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Awareness in Gujarat

Anemia, caused by low iron in blood, affects more than 70% of women and children in India, causing weakness, lethargy, and fatigue with no ambition. H2U has been engaged in a project for the past two years to provide screening, diagnosis, treatment, and awareness education for anemia. The project provides services to more than 600 villages in tribal areas of Gujarat. Treatment includes screening, anti-worm medications, and iron, B-12, and folic acid supplements, for only $1 per person. In 2020, more than 30,000 people benefitted from this project, but in 2021, that number increased to 45,000 beneficiaries.

Special Neonatal Care Unit in Four Tribal Blocks of Bharuch and Narmada Districts in Gujarat

The three greatest causes of infant mortality are premature birth, premature complication during delivery, and infection during the first week following birth. The Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) project aims to reduce infant mortality rates among those with premature, low birth weights. Following delivery, follow-up care is provided by trained supervisors, including nutrition, immunization, and awareness interventions and follow-ups until the child is at least two years old. This project benefited 25% of 5,500 deliveries per year, and in 2021, the project reduced premature infant mortality in the service areas by 80% — a remarkable accomplishment. For the two years Share & Care has funded the project, more than 3,000 have benefited from its services.

Mental Health and Life Skills Education Empowers Tribal Adolescents in Gujarat

This project helps adolescents in rural and tribal areas by providing education on mental health, life skills, menstrual hygiene, and empowerment, as well as need-based counseling. This ongoing project aims to reach 15,000 adolescents from 40 schools and 100 villages, and includes 100 peer educators, 200 trained health workers, 100 teachers and 200 Anganwadi workers. Additionally, by creating and strengthening the leadership skills of peer educators, a new team of adolescent frontline workers will be continually created, so they may continue on as teachers, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers sustaining the project long-term.

Managing Post-Pandemic Mental Healthcare in Maharashtra

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a large detrimental effect on the mental health of many. Necessary public health actions, such as isolation and social distancing, can worsen loneliness and depression, and the social stigma of mental health issues adds to the scope of the problem. To combat these issues, the project has hosted awareness trainings and webinars to help attendees identify stressors, recognize emotional distress, develop healthy coping skills, and learn self-regulation skills. These workshops aim to create self-aware students, parents, and teachers to develop communities with the knowledge of and respect for mental health.

Thus far, 68 webinars have been hosted, reaching more than 3,200 people. An additional 232 webinars are planned, with approximately 100 geared toward students and an additional 100 geared toward teachers. These workshops are expected to reach more than 15,000 participants.

Saving Life at Birth in Maharashtra

This project offers comprehensive community health programs for mothers and children in 25 villages in Nanded. The project includes a traditional birth attendant (Dai) and community organizer in each village, as well as a health educator and supervisory technical staff that provide support to field staff. Its focus includes family planning, neonatal and maternal health, immunization, low-cost nutrition and food preparation, and hydration to consistently improve health outcomes, and aims to create a sustainable program to train a member of each household as a voluntary health worker.

Mobile Health Clinic in Tamil Nadu

This mobile healthcare project provides a well-equipped medical van and nurses who provide basic healthcare to remote areas in Tamil Nadu, covering 28 villages. Since November 2021, 1,792 beneficiaries received primary care and over-the-counter medications. Furthermore, the outreach program reached 21 villages and provided neonatal and maternal care for 120 women.

Pregnancy and Maternal Care for Landless Labor Community in Tamil Nadu

This project provides preventative and curative care, focused on maternal and newborn healthcare. The project takes on beneficiaries from the confirmation of pregnancy and for two years thereafter, working to ensure a stress-free pregnancy, health delivery, and proper milestone development in the babies. Support includes prenatal care and post-delivery support, with issues of maternal malnutrition, anemia, pediatric HIV infection, and low birth weight being the most common care interventions needed. The program followed 100 mothers and their children for two years and all participants are healthy and doing well! Through its continued work, the project aims to significantly reduce or eliminate infant and maternal mortality in the area.

Mobile Rural Healthcare in Manipur

This project provides essential healthcare in eight remote villages of Manipur, serving nearly 9,500 beneficiaries. A well-equipped medical van is used to conduct medical clinics each week, providing free preventative treatment and testing, and offering referrals for those who may need further treatment.

If you’ve been inspired by our efforts to provide healthcare access through effective projects like these, we humbly encourage you to make a donation. Your support is truly appreciated.
